Survey on Multiple Citizenship (BE)

Vandaag ontving ik onderstaande email van GOAL :

we usually do not “spam” adoptees with emails. This time we make an
exception because we feel it is important to reach out. The topic is very
important and we hope that you don’t mind that we sent you this email.

The Korean Ministry of Justice sent us a draft of their proposed bill. In
this bill a change from the single citizenship to a multiple citizenship
system is suggested. This would allow Korean citizens to have more than only
one citizenship (which was the rule up-to-now). Korean adoptees are also the
only group that is being considered for multiple citizenship. That would
mean that a Korean adoptee could get his/her Korean citizenship re-instated
without having to give up the citizenship of the adoptive country.

There are of course some issues connected, such as military service etc. which
we will continue to discuss with the various ministries.

G.O.A.’L is invited to participate in the Public Hearing at the panel
discussion (August 25, 2009, COEX) which is organized by the Ministry of Justice.
For this purpose we created this very short survey.

Zoektocht

Een paar maanden geleden had ik jullie laten weten dat ik mijn zoektocht ben begonnen.

Sinds gisteren is er schot in de zaak gekomen. Toen kreeg ik een mail van het birth family search department van Global Overseas Adoptees’ Link:

The first step for you to take right now is to contact Holt in Korea (if you haven’t done it yet) in order to get additional information on your file. You can send an email with your request to holtkorea at hotmail dot com. Please mention that you would like to obtain more information about your birth family (if that’s your request). Let us know what comes out of it and don’t forget to give us the name of the social worker who’s assigned to your case. This helps us when we have further contact with the adoption agency if nececessary.

Op hun aanraden gisterenavond een mail met wat documenten gemaild naar Holt en naar het weeshuis in Korea. Deze morgen kreeg ik een mail van Holt:

Thank you for your inquiry!
But sorry to tell you that your contact social worker is out of office today. She is Mrs. Seol and
will try to answer you within a few days. Thank you for your patience!

Het gaat nu wel in een stroomversnelling! Ik ben is benieuwd wat er uit de bus komt.

Zoektocht begonnen

Zoals sommigen van jullie weten ben ik op zeer jonge leeftijd geadopteerd. Er zijn altijd wel vragen geweest zoals wie zijn mijn biologische ouders, heb ik nog broers en/of zussen maar nooit hebben deze vragen mij zo boven het hoofd gestoken als de laatste maand. Ik dacht dat ik met mijn goede situatie vrede had genomen maar blijkbaar niet.

Op de eerste plaats ben ik mijn ouders zeer dankbaar en zullen zij altijd op de eerste plaats mijn ouders blijven, want zij hebben voor mij gezorgd, me opgevoed (ook als was ik niet altijd even gemakkelijk…). Gisteren heb ik mijn adoptiedossier mee naar huis genomen en doorgenomen. Sinds vandaag ben ik op zoek via het internet en ben ik eens benieuwd hoe ver ik met dit medium kan geraken.

Het feit dat ik geen Koreaans spreek of kan lezen maakt het er niet gemakkelijker op. Sommige sites zijn in het Koreaans en Engels beschikbaar maar is vaak sowieso. Was daarstraks een Engels formulier aan het invullen en kreeg plots een popup in het Koreaans. Aaaargh.
